Makayla is interning at CoWork Kingston this spring!

About: Makayla always keeps in mind that solidarity and togetherness advance a society. Communities cannot progress if people do not collectively help to better it. She is currently the President of the Period Power! club at her school. She and her fellow club members bring free period products to students in Kingston. It is a New York state mandate to ensure that students have access to free period products, and due to their hard work the club was able to get products in their school bathrooms!

Activism: In December 2023, Period Power! partnered with TMI Project: Stories for Choice. These youth activists told their own stories to raise awareness about period poverty and reduce period stigma. Some of stories can be see: HERE

Coinciding with the Period Power! Stories for Choice, the IMatter Project , Kingston Edition, launched. IMatter is an art campaign celebrating the sanctity and self-worth of diverse community members while instilling a sense of dignity, hope and promise. It can be found on the side of the CWK building (see below). If you haven’t yet, swing by the building, see the art, and listen to their stories: HERE

What’s next: Makayla plans to actively continue her volunteer efforts after high school. She also has a strong interest in pursuing studies in Interior Design. She hopes to attend college for design and bring sustainability and beauty to spaces.

We could not be prouder of this leader on the rise!
