I’ve always walked the line – generationally speaking. The very last of Generation X and the very eldest of the Millennials.
So what does this mean? I’m self-reliant, resourceful, sarcastic, and skeptical of most authority figures…..sure.
But I also hail from those before me:
The Greatest Generation – known for times of war and strife, and therefore saved everything for survival and preservation.
and
The Baby Boomers – known as the wealthiest generation, driving consumerism and mass market production.
So what does this all mean re: Earth Month and where am I going with this?
Well –
I’ve been left with people’s “stuff”. Gifted, granted, inherited – lots and lots of stuff.
When you save because you have little, hoard because you were taught to save, and accumulate more because having things becomes easier – it’s time to send it elsewhere.
And sometimes that elsewhere and somehow turns out to be a someone.
Apparently the “someone” is me = the responsible eldest daughter. (IYKYK)
BUT if I have too much it means I can give, I can pass on, I can find those who need it more.
Which is why I LOVE a good community swap AND we have 2 on-site next week.
April 21st – Capital Vintage Clothing Swap, 10am-4pm @ Senate Garage
April 22nd – CraftHV Craft Supply Swap, 3pm-8pm @Senate Garage
Feel free to donate and “shop”, or just donate, OR just “shop”. You do not have to give to get. Free to all and everyone is welcome. Flyers and details below. Scroll to know.
Great reasons to clean out that closet, organize that craft room, kick the spring cleaning into gear, AND give (that’s my favorite part).
It’s our way of contributing earth month style.
Hope to see you there!
Much love –
Melanie, The Eldest Millennial Daughter
