Networking allergies getting you down? Not sure?
Do you get twitchy thinking about convo cues?
Zone out mid-chat when it gets to be a little too much?
Look for the door after about 20 minutes of what feels like forced chatter?
UGH. Same, friends. Same.
Looking for a natural remedy?
Then join us at the next ConnectHV X CoWork Kingston Meetup, August 6th. The vibe is: “an event to meet interesting people for those of us who are allergic to traditional ‘networking’ events.” Hence this newsletter topic.
If you’ve been to one of these events in the past, then you know they are lovely, easy going, and full of good people.
However, if any kind of social gathering gives you the “itchy – no thank yous”, I’ve got some helpful pointers.
Here are my easy 1,2,3s of social connecting:
- Ask simple relatable questions to start the convo:
a. Have you been to one of these events before?
b. Are you from the Kingston area? (Aug 6th event is in Kingston)
c. Have you been to this restaurant, event, new shop? Share a story or knowledge. Community is about sharing. Sharing = Connection.
You do not have to start off with your profession.
- Be prepared. Set an intention for the evening. If you find these types of situations stressful (I often do), set a goal for yourself. For example:
a. Meet 2 new people.
b. Stay for 45 min and then leave.
You don’t have to meet and do everything at every event.
One good thing is good enough.
- Have an exit strategy. (this is my favorite and pairs with b. above) Allow yourself to leave an event – early is fine. Too much can literally be too much. Don’t drain yourself.
The August 6th event is currently “full”, but be sure to get on the waiting list. Pssst…..more spots might open up day of.
Plus, we have some great joint events in the works. So you may want to get on that Connect HV mailing list and stay in the know.
See you soon,
