I’m turning into my crazy Aunt Laura.
What a way to start a newsletter, huh? But, it’s true.
My Aunt is nutty for lots of reasons, but one that has always resonated with me was the holiday season and wrapping paper.
Growing up unwrapping Christmas gifts took hours. My cousins had to carefully unwrap the paper and fold it so that it could be used again the next year. No rushing. Slow and meticulous. HOURS.
Gift by gift. Each person had to take turns opening while everyone watched them unwrap. Then the folding.
Every. Single. Piece.
::Insert eye roll here::
Flash forward to a few weeks ago and I’m ever so delicately refolding tissue paper and putting it into a closet full of reused gift bags. Yep, a closet full.
“Huh”, I think. “I’ve turned into Aunt Laura.”
And it’s not so bad.
Reusing wrapping items has become part of my recycling practice. Along with composting, donating clothes to organizations I trust will either recycle or pass them along to those in need, and making sure toners and electronics get properly recycled.
My system’s not perfect, but there’s a method to my madness and I’m doing by best to reduce as much as possible.
Earth Day is Monday, April 22nd. It’s a great time to think about what earth conscious steps can be taken. Every bit helps.
I made a guide of local resources. The original guide resides on our blog page. It’s a living document.
So what is it missing? Tell me. Let’s grow the list and spread the knowledge.
Much love
