I was recently scrolling Instagram, when I was fed a video titled:

“Women lugging things”.

It struck a chord.

Oh, that’s me. I’m a great lugger of goods.  AND so is The Little Red Hen.

I was raised on folktales and fables, but if you’re not familiar with the story,

Here’s a quick overview:

  • The Little Red Hen finds wheat and wants to make bread.
  • She asks her friends to help her plant, harvest, mill, and bake the wheat.
  • Her friends refuse to help.
  • The Little Red Hen completes the tasks herself.
  • She bakes bread with the harvest.
  • The friends want to eat the bread, but she refuses and eats the bread herself.

The original moral: hard work and self-reliance

But also, stay with me here, a metaphor for broken community.

It can feel hard as adults to ask for help when we’re taught independence as a society.

Which according to that video has lead to women regularly carrying heavy crap everywhere.

Imagine actually asking for that much needed help and your friends reject your request.

Shady.

However, we are lucky. The Mid-Hudson Valley is filled with harvest reaping bread makers aka community generators.

That’s right. You have options.

Options that consist of local coffee shops, music venues, bars, networking groups, small businesses, and coworking spaces providing a huge variety of engaging support opportunities.

Communities that help nurture to grow connections and friendships.

And if you’re not sure what might be a good fit, I’m always happy to help.

DM or send me an email, I’m full of recommendations.

I hope you find your flock, support your flock, celebrate your flock, and feast this season.

Ideally on bread.

Much love.
