Running in with a second Halloween story this season.
In my former life, I had a custom accessory business while living in NYC. (Jennifer Coolidge may have saved it. Learn more about that HERE)
Contrary to many businesses, my BIG holiday was Halloween. It was common to start getting requests as early as August 1st.
AND it was also common to get desperate inquiries up to the very last second.
During this particular season, I was getting hit hard with requests from out of towners. Apparently they all forgot it was October and now needed something for all the NYC parties they were going to attend.
One client who failed to understand the geography of Manhattan, as we were a mere 10 blocks apart, was unable to get a currier (or walk) to pick up their package in time.
Two minutes before it was too late, I got the following: “Please. Please. Please. Drop it at my hotel. They’ll be waiting for you at the coat room.”
::Hard eye roll:: This was not part of the deal.
However, they were close. So I made the extra effort to scoot downtown and make the drop.
Chic hotel. Fashionable people. Drop made. Let’s get out of here mode on.
45 minutes later I get an email:
“Thank you SO much. I really appreciate the favor. I work for Reebok. Use the link below and the following code for a free pair of sneakers.”
WHAT?!!
As a child of the 80s/90s, I grew up with a strong sense of sarcasm and skepticism. How can this be? I sense a scam.
But I clicked the link anyway and……………
It was real!!!
End result = I got the cutest sneakers with neon detail. I LOVE neon.
So where am I going with this story? (incoming segue)
Sneakers are a super important factor to Halloween. They help you run towards candy, away from haunted houses, and help you escape “trendy” hotels that don’t match your vibe and you want to exit as fast as possible.
But my suggestion is to let your favorite pair of trainers guide you to the Rosendale Theatre, where our buddy Rob has been curating a series of Halloween screenings. Not to mention, he recently kicked off WTF Wednesday, focused on celebrating “weird cinema.”
Scroll to learn about Rob and the special spin he’s bringing to local theatre.
See you there.
Neon sneaker + weird movie loving, Melanie
