CoWork Kingston resides within the Senate Garage building, an historic fixture in Kingston’s Uptown Stockade District. Built in 1921, this year mark the building’s 102nd birthday. We are proud to be part of the history of the building and the Kingston community.
How did we get here? Let us tell you:
Exactly 10 years ago, we purchased this building at the corner of Front & Fair Street. We had no idea what we were in for. Why did we buy it? We both love old industrial brick buildings. But it was in awful shape. Built as a garage in 1921 (and incorporated at Senate Garage!), the building became a factory around 1950. And then over 60 years later, filled with industrial scars and dust and neglect (and a very leaky roof) it was ours.
Besides having a vague idea of putting our company, Dragon360, upstairs – we did not have a plan with what to do with it. Then in early 2014 Chronogram asked if they could hold a January dance party in the building – downstairs. The place was dirty, ugly and not close to ready for a party. We said yes. It turned out to be the coolest party we had been to in years and made us look at each other and say, what a great place for a party!
It’s clear that the building has transformed our lives. We have a wonderful, dynamic community of professionals at CoWork Kingston, with some of the most fascinating people coming and going. Downstairs, we’ve held over 300 events of all kinds – dance, jazz, classical, galas, political events, film shoots, photography, business meetings and many weddings. The building has rooted us in this community in a way that nothing else could.
We are madly in love with our building and hope to enjoy it, along with the Kingston community, for many years to come.
