Hey Friends,

I need to be honest……I’m not a Halloween girly.

GASP. SHOCK. HORROR.

I know.

This might come as a surprise as on any given day, I dress as an aged Clarissa Darling/retired Fly Girl with a sprinkle of neon.

(And if you get those references without Googling we are instant besties.)

I do, however, have some notably favorite Halloweens from my childhood.

One being the year I was toothpaste. You can read that story: HERE

And this is the other story:

I was in Kindergarten and it was time for the school’s annual Halloween parade through the cafeteria.

This particular year, I was dressed as the most dazzling butterfly.

Dressed to the nines. Dripping in purple rhinestones, huge elegant wings, and the best accessory ever: My adorable bubble bee sibling.

The glamour was top level. And I was SO proud to march around and show off the unbearable cuteness that was my little sister.

Walking in a circle around the cafeteria was thrilling. There were awes, whispers, and knowing smiles from the audience showing their overwhelming appreciation for our costumes.

They were perfection.

Are you ready for the big reveal???

Was it everything you imagined?

Because it wasn’t exactly how I remembered it seeing the pic years later.

Like, not even close.

When did I ever own grey boots?

Then I realized, what I was remembering was how I felt. And I felt AMAZING in my homemade outfit consisting of remnant ballet class items, pipe cleaner headband, and apparently a stranger’s pair of boots.

(Also, don’t worry about the ninja turtle. He’s upset because the bee fell on his foot and the bee was fine.)

The costume didn’t have to be brand new, it didn’t have to actually be dripping in anything sparkling (aside from the six sequins that made up the butterfly), and I surely wasn’t winning any glamour contests that day.

Except for the one in my heart.

So where am I going with this “second-hand clothes are great” speech?
